Mr. Hugh Scott - Principal

Dr. Scott is in his 8th year as principal at SNHS.  Dr. Scott has over 17 years of experience in education, with one year as Principal at Tar River Academy and four years as Assistant Principal of Southern Nash High School.  Dr. Scott completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University and the Project I4 program. He earned his Master's in School Administration from North Carolina State University.  As an administrator at Southern Nash High School, he witnessed approximately 3000 graduates cross the stage at Southern Nash High School. While in Nash County Public Schools, he served as a teacher, curriculum coach, and professional development coordinator for the district before moving into an administrative role. Dr. Scott was recognized as the Nash County Public Schools Principal of the Year in the 2020-21 and 2023-2024 school years.

Mr. Gavin Meiring - Assistant Principal

My name is Gavin Meiring and I am excited to be a part of the Firebird family. I have over 20 years of experience as an educator. I was born and raised in South Africa where I graduated from High School as well as received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Stellenbosch. I began my career in education as an Elementary School teacher and later on as a High School Afrikaans (my first language) teacher. In 2004, I relocated to the United States where I first started teaching at Middlesex Elementary School and then Red Oak Middle School where I taught 6th Grade Social Studies as well as coached boys and girls soccer. In 2013, I earned my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from The American College of Education. I have served as Assistant Principal at Forest Hills Middle School, Fike High School, and Hunt High School. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful family, playing golf, watching rugby, cricket, soccer, and football (Go Cowboys) I am looking forward to working with the Firebird students, families, and staff as we continue to do what best for students every day.

Mrs. Aretha DeLoatch - Assistant Principal

Mrs. DeLoatch has been an educator in Nash County for over ten years. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (K-6) in 2012 and her Master's Degree in School Administration in 2019 from East Carolina University. Mrs. DeLoatch taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade at Red Oak Elementary. She also served as the assistant basketball coach for Southern Nash High's Varsity Girls' Basketball Team from 2009 to 2015 and the junior varsity head coach for the Nash Central High Volleyball Team from 2016 to 2017. 

Mrs. DeLoatch believes that this administrative opportunity will help her to lead and be a positive asset to the school. She is passionate about helping students accomplish their academic and social goals by supporting their needs and building genuine relationships with them. Mrs. DeLoatch is very excited about continuing her administrative career at Southern Nash High School and looks forward to working with the students, staff members, and families in the community.

Mr. Elbert Maynard- Assistant Principal

Mr. Maynard grew up in Michigan (Go Blue!) and then attended Marshall University for 3 years before transferring to Fayetteville State University and earning a degree in English Education.  He taught English, AP English and Journalism at Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, NC, and then returned to Fayetteville State University to obtain a Master's degree in English.  He taught English at Mattamuskeet Early College High School in Swan Quarter and West Craven High School in Vanceboro before being accepted into the Principal Fellow's program through East Carolina University, where he received his Master's degree in School Administration and Curriculum and Instruction.  He then joined Nash County by working as an assistant principal at Rocky Mount High School in 2016 and served there for 6 years before becoming principal of Nash Everywhere Digital Academy.  After two years at NEDA, Mr. Maynard has come to Southern Nash High to join the Firebird family!

Reynolds

Mrs. Robyn Reynolds - Interim Assistant Principal

Mrs. Reynolds is currently a Principal Fellow in the MSA program at NC State University. Go Pack! She holds an associate degree in Elementary Education, and a BSA in Emergency Management from the University of Phoenix. She received her teacher licensure through RALC and East Carolina University. She has taught in both Wake and Nash Counties. Mrs Reynolds has been in education for 12 years where she has worked as a substitute teacher, an instructional assistant, and a teacher in grades K-5. Before coming to Southern Nash she taught kindergarten at Nashville Elementary for the last four years. As a Class of 1995 Southern Nash Alum, Mrs. Reynolds is excited to be at her alma mater this year. She lives in Spring Hope with her husband Ron and daughter Ryleigh, who is a sophomore at NC State. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, watching football,  and hunting in her spare time.

 "My goal this year will be to work with the students, parents, and staff to create a tri-partnership that promotes respect, accountability, self-worth, and a safe and caring environment so that ALL students feel excited and empowered to be successful learners. I am thrilled to be here this year and ready to be “All In” as we say here in Firebird Country, and help in any way that I can."
